Open for the 2022 Season: Availability & Other Updates

We are thrilled to be open for the 2022 season! We are looking forward to a great summer of fly fishing and horseback riding adventures. And then of course we can’t wait for the elk to start bugling, and the fall hunting seasons.

Here’s a quick rundown of availability and other important updates from the lodge…

Open for the Season at Budge's Wilderness Lodge

1. Availability in 2022

We are currently booked up for July and the first half of August. If you’re interested in a fly fishing or horseback riding vacation this year, we would love to help you plan a trip toward the end of August or in September. If you’ve never seen the aspens change colors here at Budge’s, here’s your invitation! It’s a spectacular display that everyone should see at least once.

What’s more, the fly fishing here is excellent all the way into October. Early fall fishing in Colorado is simply dreamy. Crisp September mornings, the changing of the colors, and trout that are ready to crush a hopper pattern make the whole experience special.

If you’d like to know more about horseback riding or fly fishing trips in the late summer or early fall, please feel free to contact us now. Or, you can find pricing and other details on our Riding Page and Fishing Page.

Our hunting seasons are currently booked for 2022, but we occasionally have cancellations. To inquire about openings or to be put on our wait list, please contact us now.

2. Renovations and Updates

For those of you who already know your way around camp, you might be interested to hear about a few of our recent updates. First, we’re excited to announce that we have new mattresses! Now, sleeping in our cozy cabins will be even more comfortable than ever. Next, we have ordered new bedding for all of the cabins. This should arrive in mid-July. Between the new mattress, sheets, blankets and comforters, you may never want to leave!

Next, we are tackling a few projects on the “Bunkhouse” otherwise known as Cabin #8. Instead of having its own generator humming outside the door, guests in the bunkhouse will now have electricity that’s tied in with the rest of our system, running off the main generator at the far end of the camp. This will make it a much more peaceful experience. Additionally, we’ve permanently tied in the Bunkhouse with the rest of our clean water system with new plumbing.

Then, we’ve begun making upgrades to our Cook’s cabin, wrangler cabin and laundry facilities. Because happy staff means happy guests! In all seriousness, we have an awesome crew, we love them and we are excited to improve their facilities as well.

3. Ownership Changes

If you already know and love our outstanding General Manager, Nelson Stutzman, don’t panic! We do have an ownership change to announce, but the man who runs the show is not going anywhere.

During the recent off-season, the business was purchased by local Colorado native, Ryan McSparran, his wife Kelly and their family. The McSparrans are excited to see Budge’s Wilderness Lodge through this next chapter in its storied history. They are also looking forward to supporting Nelson and the rest of the crew who make Budge’s a world-class destination.

Ryan and Nelson have been friends for years, having worked and guided together in the Flat Tops. They are now thrilled to combine their efforts into this truly special place.
